Notes:  Because of the limits of docks and tight naval budgets, the three ships of the ERZHERZOG KARL class were very compact, well-protected battleships, but they were considered to be inferior to their contemporaries in other navies.  For the first time in the Austro-Hungarian Navy, the secondary armament was in electrically-powered turrets.  At the outbreak of World War I, ERZHERZOG KARL and her sister ships formed the III Division.  As with most of the heavy units of the Austrian Navy, ERZHERZOG KARL saw practically no action during World War I.  ERZHERZOG KARL was taken over by Yugoslavia in 1919, but ceded as war reparation to France in 1920 and scrapped shortly thereafter.
