Notes:  The PARA class closely resembled the British RIVER class, and all were built at Yarrow under the 1907 Program, which was designed to modernize the Brazilian Navy.  All ships exceeded their design speed during trials; PARANA reached nearly 28.75 knots.  They were very manuverable, with a turning circle of 375 yards at full speed.  PIAUI, RIO GRANDE DO NOTRE, PARAIBA and SANTA CATHARINA served in the 1917-1918 active squadron off the coast of northwest Africa.
